How can the power of art inspire change? Songs of the Free, Soweto Gospel Choir’s list of best loved songs by the late South African president Nelson Mandela, will be the touchstone for an intergenerational discussion on notable student protests, localized effects, and elder perspectives in response to social injustice. Facilitated by Charles Dumas, professor emeritus of the Penn State School of Theatre, AnneMarie Mingo, assistant professor ofAfrican American Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Penn State undergraduate student Kiran Pandey. Readings available ahead of time. Penn State students from America Reads will be at the event to read stories about Nelson Mandela to younger participants.
