We sometimes like to think of ourselves as ‘dumpster diving designers’ – people who see the creative potential behind the junk that we too easily throw away.
And it’s not just with our stuff, but with our ideas too. How often has a thought crossed your mind (probably something wacky and physically impossible) and been quickly discarded in exchange for a more practical and achievable idea? But often those ideas that we initially throw away have a spark of creativity and brilliance behind them that can be molded and perfected into a realistic solution.
In designing The Lab, we sought to create an environment that would nourish and encourage these ‘dumpster ideas’ and transform them into practical solutions to sustainability challenges. This is just our way of fostering and spurring innovation that could lead to the next big thing!
The Lab often morphs between office, conference room, brainstorming space, and networking lounge and was made primarily from recycled and reclaimed materials.
We are located at 100 South Fraser Street, State College, PA 16801 and are open throughout the week for individuals, groups and organizations to use. Every MWF from 10am-4pm, the Lab holds open space hours where everyone is encouraged to drop in and hang out with other dreamers and doers and chat about potential future projects at New Leaf.
