I’m an instructor and academic adviser in an online BA program in Energy and Sustainability Policy here at Penn State. It’s great because I get to work with students all over the globe who call Penn State their academic home. I first came to Penn State in 2003 to pursue a Master’s in Geography. During that time I became very interested in local scale efforts to effect change on global problems, particularly with regard to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and how behavioral changes among users could help put a dent in things. After graduate school, I’ve had the chance to do some pretty cool work – from inventorying all of the PSU campuses greenhouse gases to my most recent previous employment as a Policy Analyst and Account Manager for a company here in State College called Environmental Credit Corp. ECC focuses on developing and managing greenhouse gas reduction projects that can be monetized for carbon credit revenue here in the voluntary market of the United States. Most of the projects I worked with were reducing agricultural methane emissions from manure lagoons (glamorous!).
I’m looking forward to being involved in some of the great projects New Leaf has going on and meeting many other allies too! While my current research interests include energy and climate policy, scale and other issues of governance surrounding climate change, and a newfound interest in understanding the social and environmental implications of the Marcellus Shale exploration happening around us, I’m also really open to exploring lots of other project ideas too!
